The Whitireia Faculty of Health was established to create an environment that models and nurtures leadership qualities and excellence in tertiary education.

A number of programmes sit within the faculty ranging from introductory level through to postgraduate level.

The Faculty of Health offers areas of excellence in education in postgraduate study as the second largest provider of postgraduate nursing to in New Zealand. The faculty also feeds graduates to, and offers professional development for, a number of District Health Boards.

History

For over 25 years, Nursing has been a major programme at Whitireia.  During this time, Whitireia has developed a reputation for producing work-ready graduates who are highly regarded by industry.

1986 – The first group of students enrol in the Diploma of Nursing
1995 – The qualification becomes the Bachelor of Nursing Degree
2004 – Whitireia welcomed the first group of students into the Bachelor of Nursing Pacific programme
2009 – The Bachelor of Nursing Māori welcomed its first students in July
2011 – The Diploma in Enrolled Nursing enrolled its first cohort of students

Both Diploma and Degree programmes are approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and meet the Nursing Council of New Zealand’s requirements for registration.
